Violent crime in Atlanta lowest since 1969
September 26, 2006 at 7:09 pm | In Atlanta News | Leave a CommentAtlanta’s violent crime rate dropped 6 percent last year to its lowest level since 1969, police Chief Richard Pennington announced Tuesday at the department’s annual "Crime Is Toast" awards breakfast at the Georgia World Congress Center. Homicides and rapes led the decline, Pennington said, continuing a trend of reduced violent crime in recent years, "which makes us among the most professional and effective police departments in the nation." Killings dropped 21 percent last year, from 112 to 90, and rapes were down 16 percent, according to Atlanta police department statistics supplied to the FBI for the annual "Uniform Crime Report" national survey. Aggravated assaults were down 9 percent, and robberies and larcenies dropped 8 percent; burglaries, however, dropped only 1 percent. Mayor Shirley Franklin, the featured speaker, pledged to lobby the City Council for continued financial support for police, whose starting salary is about $37,000."There’s no question, we need to raise salaries, and we need a new police headquarters," she said.

Same situation….but better
September 25, 2006 at 10:15 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentI have another career decision to make. I currently have a really good
job in that it pays really well. I have also been offered a job where I
only work 3 days a week….a 36 hour week. The job that pays well is a
night job which will take away my time with Sean and Joe. I really enjoy
having dinner together each night and the fun of watching all our tv
shows. I know money isn’t everything so that is why I’m having such a
hard time making a decision. The money will definately help with the
plans that sean and I have made but working 4pm to 1am will definately
make me miss a lot. I’m so fortunate that I have several career choices
in which to choose from.
My life has been so blessed. I’ve been in several situations where I
didn’t think my life would improve. I’ve been in situations where I
thought I had lost everything. Its amazing to look back on those
negative situations and see how far I’ve really come. A lot of my dreams
have come true…..but do any of us ever really stop dreaming? I am one
of those people who will push and push and do what I need to do to
realize my dreams.
